International Academic Workshop of Agricultural Risk Management held in Beijing

On April 1, 2008, the International Academic Workshop of Agricultural Risk Management was convened in Agricultural Information Institute (AII), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). More than 40 people attended the workshop including delegation of Agricultural risk management from US. Prof. Qiao Zhang, who is director of centre for analysis and evaluation of agricultural information of AII, associate professor Chuan Wang, vice director of centre for analysis and evaluation of agricultural information of AII, Prof. Huijie Zhang, director of international affairs management division of AII and a parts of the researchers and graduates of CAAS. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Xianxue Meng, the Vice General Director of AII.
Prof. Samuel Shen from San Diego State University in U.S., Dr. Craig W. Tillman, Dr. Joel K. Sivillo and Dr. Alan Basist from reinsurance and insurance consultive company gave their academic presentation of “Agricultural Risk Management Using Advanced Weather Information”. and they introduced the application of information technology in agricultural risk management. Prof. Qiao Zhang gave the presentation of “Analysis and management of agricultural risk in China”, he introduced their progress and achievements of research in agricultural risk analysis, agricultural risk management, effects of agricultural insurance and other major research fields.
At last, the attendees discussed and exchanged the issues relating the presentation deeply. The cooperative agreement was signed by delegate of San Diego State University in U.S. and. delegate of Agricultural Information Institute (AII) of CAAS in China.
