The China-UK Sustainable Development Dialogue (SDD) was officially launched on November 8th 2005, following a joint prime-ministerial declaration in May 2004, in which “China and the UK pledge to join hands in … promoting sustainable development”. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is the lead department on the Chinese side, and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) leads on the UK side. The China-UK SDD is a commitment to a bilateral partnership on sustainable development, and also a high-level structured dialogue on sustainable development between the China and UK, based on common interests and mutual learning.
The goal of the DelPHE Project, which is the Application of Crop Insurance to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, is coinciding with the goals of China-U.K.SDD, and the activities planed of the project are under the requirements of China-UK SDD totally. In order to improve the effectiveness of project implementation and extend the influence of the project, Prof. Zhang submitted an application to the Ministry of Agriculture of China to ask if the DelPHE Project can be list in China-UK SDD on March 2nd 2008. After the discussion between China and UK side, an official confirmation was received that the DelPHE Project had been accepted to be one of projects within China-UK SDD.
