Prof. Zhang and Mr. Wang Visited the United States for Academic CommunicationJan. 24 to Jan. 31, 2010 / USA
According to the planning schedule of DelPHE ACIC project, Prof. Qiao zhang and Mr. Jackie Wang visited the United States for academic communication on agricultural risk management and crop insurance from Jan. 24 to Jan. 31, 2010.
During the visiting in USA, Prof. Zhang and Jackie visited the San Diego State University (SDSU), Weather Predict Consulting Inc., Renaissance Reinsurance (RenRe) North America Inc. and Purdue University, respectively. In SDSU, Prof. Zhang and Mr. Wang has an deeply communication with Prof. Samuel Shen, Dr. Allan Basis and Prof. Stanley Maloy on the remote sensing technology and other methods that can be used to manage agricultural risk. On Jan. 26 under accompany of Prof. Samuel Shen and Dr. Allan Basis, Prof. Zhang and Jackie Wang also meet Dr. Craig W. Tillman who is the president of Weather Predict Consulting Inc. in Los Angeles. They discussed some key issues to modeling typhoon and other catastrophic risk together. After that, Prof. Qiao Zhang and Jackie Wang fly to Chicago to meet Dr. Joseph B. Cole who is the managing director of Renaissance Reinsurance Inc. for the discussing on the ratemaking of crop insurance contract and crop reinsurance. At last, Prof. Qiao Zhang and Jackie Wang visited Prof. Holly Wang (Partner 5) at Purdue University on Jan. 29~31 for the discussion upon detailed preparation work for upcoming "Agricultural Risk and Food Safety (ARFS) International Conference". They also discussed the future cooperation, and expressed the hope that the desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The visit to United States had made a highly success. During a week, Prof. Qiao Zhang and Jackie Wang discussed a lot of key issues on Agricultural risk management and crop insurance with the research fellows of University and Insurers which is not only benefit for their Professional development, but also facilitate the future cooperation between CAAS and the HE institutions of USA. |
